What on earth is Perfection Paralysis??? This is what I call the need to get everything perfect (or as close to it as possible) before acting on something.
Perfect example is my dream of blogging. I feel like I have to learn absolutely everything about blogging before I actually start to write a post. I feel like I need to know how to best utilize SEO, take the best photos, format everything, have an amazing logo… the list goes on and on. I could spend years trying to learn all of this, or I could do what I am doing right now: writing.
Is my blog pretty and perfect? No. Do I know how to use the technology behind my website? Eh, kind of… in theory…
But here I am. I am writing what is on my heart and mind. I have started and stopped blog posts too many times to count because they didn’t seem “perfect”.
PROGRESS, NOT PERFECTION
Words to live by. I am not sure where I first heard this quote, but it has really resonated with me. Just jump in and start. Yes, that is easy to say and hard to do.
Like everything else in life, it takes practice and time to form a habit. So here goes nothing. Open up MS Word and start writing what is on my heart and mind. Everything is editable. Even permanent marker! (Ok, so you may have to use white-out or several coats of paint to cover it up!)
One of the biggest areas this affects me is in cleaning, organizing and decluttering. But that is another story for a different day.
So close your eyes and take a step. No matter how small, take a step. There, now you are moving past the paralysis. One step leads to another and another.
Leave me a comment and let me know where your biggest challenge is in perfection paralysis!
